Derek Blasberg, director of YouTube fashion and beauty, broke the news last Thursday on the official YouTube blog–telling the community about the launch of Youtube.com/Fashion, a destination for style content on YouTube.
Blasberg wrote: “My team likes to call this new hub ‘slash fashion’ and it’ll feature original content from the biggest names in the industry, as well as the popular content that users have come to expect from the world of YouTube. Each shelf is chock-full of compelling videos from fashion and beauty creators, industry professionals, publishers, and luxury fashion brands.”
According to the video platform the number of fashion and beauty channels on YouTube has grown over 6x, generating billions of views in the last year alone. With YouTube Fashion, Blasberg wants to create an ultimate destination for style content that bridges the creator community as well as the more traditional worlds of fashion and beauty.
Youtube/Fashion contains on the following sections: "Beauty Today" focuses on creators such as Jackie Aina and Huda Beauty (both with over 3 million subscribers). Industry collaborations will play another important role at the newly created platform. This section focuses on collaborations between fashion brands and YouTube creators.
For example Louis Vuitton, who teamed up with Emma Chamberlain and the Dolan Twins; or Dior, who invited Wengie, the Merrell Twins, Dulceida and Juanpa Zurita to their shows.
The Industry access section includes live streams directly from the catwalk and cooperations with major fashion brands such as Louis Vuitton and Dior. In addition, industry insiders such as well-known models, brand spokespersons or other professionals active in the industry will also have their say in the new fashion channel.
